This is the first solo show that Vasiliev Nini has had in Columbus, OH. The prolific artist presents unseen works in ceramics, wood and marble sculpture and bas-reliefs. Complementing the sculptures are his charcoal Experiences, graphite, pastel, painting, and mixed media works. He approaches his 2D painting and mixed media work in the same way that he sculpts a 3D sculpture – starting with a bunch of color on a page and then moving it to create the work.

This collection is a show representing Vas’s journey to live the American Dream as a hard working immigrant and family man that grew up  in Tirana.

The mixed media works on paper of women began five years ago and were recently completed. This span of time to incubate was part of the artist’s personal journey that only now felt that it was a good time to complete the works. Many of his works have been in progress for years and even a decade. In contrast, his charcoal drawings are executed in minutes.  Vas says, “I know when to stop and when the work is complete”.  His use of color seen in his landscapes are further developed in a women’s dress. The observer completes the piece by making the colors continue to move and create something more than what is observed. The realistic bust with the abstract bottom of the female and her dress is a journey from the artist’s classical realist roots.

“I know when to stop and when the work is complete”.  - Vasiliev

He has always explored the form of the female figure and now the function of women and the unleashing of creativity, freedom and autonomy is comparable to everyone’s journey to live out the American Dream.
